NOVICE PROGRAM

The MPRA Novice program introduces participants to the sport of target shooting by providing a social-based, safe, positive and fun environment.

The program runs one night a week from October to May of each year. We teach the principles of safe gun handling skills, and introduce future athletes to the sport of 10 meter Air Rifle (standing) and .22 long rifle (prone).

The program is designed to supply each individual with the basic equipment needed to participate.

As their skills increase, other equipment if available, is supplied.

Our program is centered out of the Shooting Sport Performance Centre located at 920 Nairn Ave (lower level), and Gateway Gun Club.

As the participants’ skills increase, they are encouraged to participate in the local matches held (November – May) in Air Rifle and (December – July) in .22 Long Rifle.

The Air Rifle Indoor Matches are held at the Shooting Sport Performance Centre and the .22 Long Rifle Matches are held at the Winnipeg Revolver and Pistol Club.

Beginning in 2015, .22 Long Rifle Outdoor Matches will be held at a range located to the east and north of Portage La Prairie. Watch this space for driving directions to the Range. These matches bring everyone together from the basic beginner to our elite National and International level athletes.
